Bharti Airtel deploys 5MHz spectrum in 1800 band in Tamil Nadu to bolster capacity

On Monday, Bharti Airtel announced that it has launched 5MHz spectrum in the 1800MHz band and network software tools on its network in Tamil Nadu to improve the state's high-speed data capacity.

The aims of the Airtel's deployment of the spectrum is to achieve better network availability and data speed, as well as to achieve better coverage in urban and urban residential and buildings.

The company stated, “The implementation also enables Airtel to offer wider coverage along roads and railways and increase its influence in the state as more people use high-speed data services."

At the same time, the implemented network technologies and tools including Massive MIMO pre-5G, 4G Advanced and Carrier Aggregation to increase high-speed network capacity and coverage.

On the other hand, Reliance Jio deployed a 15MHz spectrum in Karnataka, and 20MHz each spectrum in 850MHz, 1800MHz, and 2300MHz bands in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

In the recent central government spectrum auction, Airtel purchased large-scale 1800MHz and 900MHz blocks of spectrum for Tamil Nadu.

 

By acquiring the latest spectrum, Airtel stated that it has the largest 65MHz spectrum holding in Tamil Nadu, adding that it is at 2300MHz (TD LTE), 2100MHz (FD LTE), 1800MHz (FD LTE), and 900MHz (LTE).

Mr. Amit Tripathi, CEO – Tamil Nadu, Bharti Airtel, said, "We plan to continue to massively invest in the deployment of the latest network technology to ensure our customers leverage a seamless network experience. Another block of 1800 frequency band spectrum and new technology updates would significantly boost network's ability to meet customers' growing data needs.”

According to the company, its network covers 98.54% of the Tamil Nadu's population. And it has 2.7 million customers in Tamil Nadu.
