According to a report by the India Exim Bank, India has recently become a major exporter of defence products and may be able to meet Africa's needs in the maritime, aerospace, and defence sectors. During the period of 2017 to 2021, Mauritius, Mozambique, and the Seychelles are expected to be the top destinations for Indian arms.

The report recommended a change from India's current defence and security cooperation strategy with Africa and other developing nations, which remains need-based and stresses empowerment through training, capacity building, and humanitarian aid.

According to the report, Mauritius, Mozambique, and Seychelles together accounted for 6.6% of India's arms exports to Africa between 2017-2021.

The report stated that India was the 23rd largest exporter of defence goods from 2017-2021, according to the SIPRI International Arms Transfer Database.
