The Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY) is actively working to bolster the domestic semiconductor industry and ensure responsible utilization of artificial intelligence, according to MeitY Secretary, Mr. S. Krishnan, who discussed key initiatives, including the semiconductor ecosystem, mobile components manufacturing, addressing the challenge of deepfakes, and implementing the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act 2023. Emphasizing India's strength in semiconductor design, Mr. Krishnan highlighted the importance of encouraging larger Indian companies to engage in design activities and foster the development of domestic products and intellectual property within the Indian ecosystem.

He outlined that the semiconductor ecosystem comprises three vital components, with design being a significant focus. Notably, he cited the active involvement of international companies like Qualcomm, Broadcom, and AMD, which operate as fabless entities relying on design capabilities. He stressed the need for Indian companies to participate in design activities, leading to the creation of domestic products and, subsequently, intellectual property.
