Mumbai: Larsen and Toubro Ltd (L&T) on Wednesday said it has won a Rs.5,580 crore order from NTPC Ltd to build a power plant in Madhya Pradesh.

India’s largest engineering firm will build the 1320 megawatts (MW) greenfield ultra-supercritical thermal plant on an engineering, procurement and construction basis.

“The project entails design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of two coal-fired thermal units of 660 MW each with ultra-supercritical parameter,” the company said in a statement.

Earlier, in September, NTPC had awarded a Rs.1,885 crore to NTPC to set up two units of 660 MW each.

L&T also said its construction vertical secured Rs.2,101 crore worth of orders combined in March 2015. This includes an order to build Phase-III of Delhi’s Barapullah elevated corridor.

The capital goods sector has been struggling due to a fall in fresh orders which were impacted by a slowdown in the investment cycle in the economy. Fresh order awards from the private sector has been muted.

In February, L&T revised its order inflow guidance to a range of 15-20% for financial year 2014-15. At the beginning of the last financial year, guidance for order inflow growth was an absolute 20%.

The consolidated order book of the group stood at Rs.2.26 trillion crore as on 31 December 2014.
