Over 1,350 projects worth US$ 1.93 billion (Rs. 15,867 crores) have been sanctioned for developmental schemes and packages in the North-Eastern Region during 2014-2022

In the North-Eastern Region (NER), various infrastructure development projects have been taken up by the concerned Ministries and Departments of the Central Government.

A total of 4,121 km of road projects have been completed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in the NER in the last seven years (as of December 2022). In addition, projects of length 7,545 km and worth US$ 13 billion (Rs. 1.05 lakh crores) are ongoing.

Further, about 17 airports have been made operational in the North-Eastern Region and the development of new Greenfield Airports are ongoing. In terms of rail connectivity, new projects of length 864.7 km and worth US$ 2.42 billion (Rs. 19, 855 crores) have been sanctioned since 2014 till date. About 20 projects for news lines and doubling are currently ongoing.

In NER, waterways are also being developed with a fairway of required depth and width, day and night navigation aids and terminals. Department of Telecommunications has also undertaken several projects in the North Eastern States for strengthening telecom connectivity in the region. In the North-Eastern States, 1,358 towers covering 1,246 villages have been installed and providing services.

Additionally, the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region (MDoNER) is implementing various schemes/packages, such as the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS), Special Packages of Assam, Hill Area Development Programme (HADP), and others. Under these developmental schemes/packages, 1,350 projects worth US$ 1.93 billion (Rs.15,867.01 crores), including connectivity projects, have been sanctioned during the financial years 2014-15 to 2021-22.
