Railways earn US$ 16.5 billion (Rs. 135,387 crores) from freight loading in this financial year till January 2023

Indian Railways earned US$ 16.5 billion (Rs. 135,387 crores) from freight loading in the first ten months of the current financial year (April-January 2023), as compared to US$ 14.33 billion (Rs. 117,212 crores) in the same period of last year, registering a 16% improvement.

On a cumulative basis from April-January 2023, the freight loading of 1,243.46 million tonnes (MT) was achieved as against 1,159.08 MT in the last year, which is an improvement of 7%.

In the month of January, 2023, originating freight loading of 134.07 MT has been achieved against loading of 129.12 MT in January 2022, which is an improvement of 4% over last year. The freight revenue of US$ 1.82 billion (Rs. 14,907 crores) has been achieved against US$ 1.61 billion (Rs. 13,172 crores) freight earnings in January 2022, thereby an improvement of 13% over last year.

The Indian Railways has been making sustained efforts to improve the ease of doing business, along with improving the service delivery at competitive prices which has resulted in new traffic coming to the railways.
