South Eastern Coalfield Limited’s Gevra Mine is set to become the largest coal mine in Asia

Chhattisgarh-based Coal India subsidiary South Eastern Coalfield Limited's Gevra mine is on track to becoming the largest coal mine in Asia. With environmental clearance granted for a substantial expansion, the mine's production capacity is set to increase from 52.5 million tons per annum to an impressive 70 million tons. This achievement, expedited by the Ministry of Coal in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEFCC), underscores Gevra's vital role in meeting the nation's energy needs, marking a significant stride towards becoming a world-leading coal mine.

CMD of SECL, Mr. Prem Sagar Misha, expressed gratitude for the historic milestone achieved with the support of the Ministry of Coal. Gevra's vision to be a state-of-the-art mining operation and the world's largest coal mine takes a significant step forward with this clearance. The SECL management extended appreciation to MoEFCC, various governmental agencies, and the Chhattisgarh Government for their swift action in granting environmental clearance, paving the way for Gevra to contribute even more significantly to India's energy security.
