The inaugural International Conference of Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulators, organized by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), occurred from February 5 to 8, 2024, during the India Energy Week in Goa. This conference featured major South and Southeast Asian National Energy Regulatory Authorities alongside international industry leaders, emphasizing the role of natural gas in achieving faster emission reduction for climate goals. Discussions in five plenary sessions covered geopolitical uncertainties impacting energy security, rapid infrastructure development, and public-private partnerships. Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Housing & Urban Affairs Mr. Hardeep Singh Puri advocated for increasing India's natural gas share from 6% to 15%, and PNGRB Chairperson, Dr. Anil Kumar Jain stressed the importance of regional collaboration for effective regulatory frameworks.

The conference highlighted the significance of natural gas as a transition fuel for achieving net-zero emissions and addressed geopolitical uncertainties affecting the energy supply of developing countries. It focused on India's natural gas regulatory and infrastructure development, emphasizing the need for reliable and affordable clean energy, especially in the infrastructure and city gas distribution. Industry leaders proposed a regional clean energy agenda between South and Southeast Asian nations through interconnected gas and electricity grids. The event served as a nexus of expertise, allowing stakeholders to network, exchange knowledge, and forge partnerships to shape the future of natural gas development.
