IBEF Completes 30 Years of Building Brand India
New Delhi, July 11, 2026: The India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF) today marks 30 years since its establishment, commemorating three decades of promoting India's strengths, supporting exporters, communicating the country's economic progress, and strengthening the Brand India narrative across global markets.
Established by the Department of Commerce on July 11, 1996, IBEF was created to promote international awareness of the Made in India label and project India as a reliable supplier of quality goods and services. Over the years, the organisation has evolved into the Government of India's dedicated platform for Brand India communication, knowledge dissemination and international outreach, working closely with ministries, export promotion councils, industry associations, Indian Missions abroad and other stakeholders.
Over the last three decades, IBEF has contributed to India's growing global profile by supporting trade promotion initiatives, developing sector-specific campaigns, creating knowledge resources, and communicating India's economic story to international audiences. As India's economy expanded and integrated more closely with global markets, IBEF's work has reflected the country's changing priorities and growing ambitions.
A key pillar of IBEF's work has been the development of one of India's most comprehensive economic information platforms – www.ibef.org. Through sector reports, state profiles, policy updates, industry analyses and business intelligence, IBEF has provided businesses, policymakers and researchers with credible information on India's economy and opportunities. Today, the platform covers more than 45 sectors and all States and Union Territories, making it a widely used resource for stakeholders seeking insights into India's business landscape.
As India accelerates its journey toward becoming a developed economy, IBEF’s initiatives remain closely aligned with the Viksit Bharat vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. In recent years, IBEF has supported several national initiatives through branding, communication and outreach activities. These include programmes related to India’s G20 Presidency engagements, promotional campaign for establishing Bharat Mobility, promotion of Indian Millets, Geographical Indication (GI) products, the Export Promotion Mission and outreach around the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). Such efforts have contributed to increasing awareness of India's strengths across sectors and markets.
IBEF has also continued its efforts to promote Indian products and sectors through campaigns and international outreach programmes. Initiatives such as Discover India have highlighted the quality, diversity and heritage associated with Indian products, including tea, Basmati rice, millets, organic products and GI-tagged goods. The organisation has also supported India's participation in major international trade fairs, exhibitions and business forums, helping increase the visibility of Indian products and services among global audiences.
Over the past decade, under the leadership of Hon'ble Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, IBEF has worked with more than 50 Export Promotion Councils, industry associations, Indian Missions and partner organisations to support India's trade promotion efforts across international markets. These collaborations have contributed to India's participation in over 100 global trade events, exhibitions and outreach activities.
As IBEF enters its fourth decade, its focus is on supporting the development of a stronger and more unified Brand India framework that reflects India's growing economic stature. The organisation will continue working with stakeholders across government and industry to strengthen India's global image, support export growth and communicate the country's strengths to international audiences.
IBEF acknowledges the continued guidance of the Department of Commerce, the support of its Board of Trustees, and the contribution of its partners and stakeholders who have been part of its journey over the last 30 years.
