Introduction

Engineering is by far the largest segment in the Indian industry, employing approximately four million skilled and semi-skilled workers. The engineering sector has witnessed tremendous growth, led by significant investments in power projects an infrastructure development. India's merchandise exports registered a growth of 12.54 percent year-on-year in April-September 2018.

Export Highlights

  • During April-June 2018, engineering exports from India stood at US$ 20.47 billion recording a growth of 15.96 per cent from the same period last year.
  • Out of 209 exports destinations of Indian engineering goods, top 25 nations accounted for 78.8 percent of India's total engineering exports in April 2018 over April 2017.
  • The EU, North America and Middle East and west Asia (MEWA) recorded the highest shipment of engineering products from India, with a share of 19 per cent, 18 per cent and 17 per cent respectively in total engineering exports in April 2018.
