Voltas Ltd is part of the Tata Group and the largest air conditioning company in India. Along with cooling products, it is a leader in engineering solutions and projects. The company started in 1954 and has come a long way to become a market leader in the country over several other multinational players. It has one of the largest distribution networks in India with more than 24,000 touch points in FY22. In consumer durables, the company manufactures room air conditioners and air coolers. It was a leader in the room ACs segment with a 23.4% market share in FY22, whereas, in air coolers, it held the second position, with 12% market share.

In May 2023, Tata Group’s consumer durables vertical Voltas Ltd announced groundwork for its upcoming air conditioner factory in Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu. The facility will see an investment of around US$ 60.64 million (Rs. 500 crore) over the next few years and will be operational in the current fiscal, helping the brand boost its footprint in south India.
Voltas Ltd secured US$ 16.4 million (Rs. 135 crore) HVAC contract for Corridor 4 of Chennai Metro Phase 2.
Voltas Limited and Danish company Vestfrost Solutions have entered into a Technology License Agreement to develop, produce, market, and provide service for medical refrigeration and vaccine storage equipment, including Ice lined Refrigerators, Vaccine Freezers, and Ultra Low Temperature Freezers to the India market.

In April 2021, Voltas launched its first ‘Brand Shop’ in Odisha to meet the rising demand from consumers for Voltas and Voltas Beko products, including air coolers, refrigerators, water dispensers, air conditioners, air purifiers, water coolers, commercial refrigerators, washing machines, microwaves and dishwashers.
Voltas is expecting a double-digit growth in sales of air-conditioners in 2021 on account of the country’s buoyant summer and hybrid working model adopted by companies amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
