JSW Steel is acquiring a 66.67% stake in Australian coking coal miner M Res NSW HCC Pty Ltd for Rs. 1,476.79 crore (US$ 170 million) to secure essential coking coal supplies for its expansion plans, addressing India's scarcity of premium quality reserves.
JSW Group is set to invest Rs. 6,08,090 crore (US$ 70 billion) over the next six years, including Rs. 43,435 crore (US$ 5 billion) for electric vehicle projects in Odisha, which will feature a 50 GWh EV battery plant, a lithium refinery, and a copper smelter, while also expanding its steel, cement, and electricity generation capacities.
In February 2024, JSW Steel and JSW Group announced a Rs. 65,000 (US$ 7.82 billion) crore investment in an integrated manufacturing complex in Odisha. The project will include steel manufacturing, a power plant, a cement unit, and jetties, with the potential to create 30,000 jobs. Additionally, JSW Group signed an agreement with the Odisha government for a Rs. 40,000 crore (US$ 4.81 billion) electric vehicle and EV battery manufacturing project, expected to generate over 11,000 jobs.
