Mr. Prahlad Singh Patel, Minister of State in the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, informed that 137 unique products from 713 districts across 35 states and Union Territories (UTs) as One District One Product (ODOP), based on the recommendations received from states and UTs.

The ministry announced 15 distinct items from 24 Jharkhand districts as ODOP. These products included peda, honey, jaggery, tomato-based, chilly-based, lime-based, mango-based, guava-based, custard apple-based, jackfruit-based, potato-based, papaya-based, and minor forest produce such as tamarind, mahua, and chironjee.

Mr. Prahlad Singh Patel said that the ODOPs are chosen based on the agricultural output, the availability of micro-food processing facilities, and Self-Help Groups (SHG)/FPOs/Cooperatives/Micro enterprises involved in the product's processing.

According to the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme rules, the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) is giving credit-linked subsidies to people interested in establishing microenterprises for food processing.

As stated in the PMFME scheme rules, the establishment of shared infrastructure projects by Farmer Producer Organization (FPOs), Self Help Groups (SHGs), cooperatives, and government bodies, seed funding to SHG members, marketing, and branding initiatives for ODOP, and capacity building through training institutes are also promoted.

The government's ODOP plan aims to support traditional and indigenous industries in various regions of the nation. The program's objective is to select one distinctive product from each area and help with its development, marketing, and promotion. The government hopes to improve the local economy and create job opportunities in the targeted districts by doing this.

Each district selects a specific product that it believes has distinctive traits, a competitive edge, and the ability to be marketed internationally. The government wants to better manage resources and ensure the development and expansion of these industries by concentrating on just one product per district.
