Over 15 eco-parks have been established by Coal/Lignite Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) in the last five years.
The individual Coal/Lignite PSUs fund the establishment, maintenance, and upkeep of eco-parks.
Coal/Lignite PSUs developed eco-parks for the local communities' recreational needs and no revenue earned from these eco-parks is used to improve the mining sites. To promote mine tourism, local self-help groups run and maintain Kenapara Eco-Park in SECL, Chhattisgarh.
In 2023-24, two eco-parks have been set up by Coal/Lignite PSUs; one in Maharashtra (Neem Vatika Eco-Park, WCL) and the other in Uttar Pradesh (CS Azad Eco-Park, NCL). 19 new eco-parks are expected to be set up in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.
This was informed by the Union Minister of Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Pralhad Joshi.
