2025 is set to see a surge in electric vehicles (EVs), with SUVs dominating launches across various price ranges. Leading automakers like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Mahindra, Tata Motors, Mercedes, Audi, and BYD are planning significant EV rollouts. Reports suggest Tesla may also evaluate the Indian market with imported models. This momentum follows the government’s push for clean mobility, addressing concerns about pollution and fuel import costs. Stricter emission norms and potential penalties are also driving the shift. Petrol, diesel, hybrid, and CNG vehicles will continue to launch, but EVs are expected to take centre stage.

The Bharat Mobility Auto Show in mid-January will kick off the year’s EV launches. Maruti Suzuki will debut its first Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), the eVitara, offering a range of 500 km and priced above Rs. 15 lakh (US$ 17,490.84). Hyundai plans the Creta EV launch. Tata Motors will introduce the Sierra, Harrier, and Safari in electric versions priced above Rs. 20 lakh (US$ 23321.12). High-end models like Mercedes' G580 Electric G and BYD’s Bao 3 will also feature. Audi’s Q6 e-tron SUV, RS e-tron GT, and Skoda’s Enyaq add to the premium EV segment. Petrol and hybrid highlights include Kia’s Syros SUV, Nissan’s Patrol, and BYD’s Denza N9 hybrid. Luxury launches such as Mercedes’ CLE53 AMG and Audi’s RSQ8 SUV are also expected, reflecting a diverse market in 2025.
