4 Indian cities among top 20 sustainable cities in Asia Pacific: Report

According to the Asia Pacific Sustainability Index 2021, the top 20 sustainable cities include four Indian cities: Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai.

36 cities were ranked according to the APAC Sustainably Led Cities Index by global real estate firm Knight Frank based on urbanisation pressure, climate risk, carbon emissions, and government activities.

Singapore, Sydney, Wellington, Perth, and Melbourne were the top five green-rated cities in commercial real estate in the Asia-Pacific region.

Bengaluru was placed 14th in the APAC region and topped the Sustainability Index among the top Indian cities. The only city in India to attain the "Gold" standard category was Bengaluru. Hyderabad was ranked 18th, Mumbai was ranked 20th, while Delhi was ranked second among Indian cities (ranked 17th in the APAC area).

The report also noted that India’s green bond issuances increased 523% on a yearly basis, from US$ 1.1 billion in 2020 to US$ 6.8 billion in 2021.
