According to the recently released "India Skills Report 2025," nearly 55% of Indian graduates are projected to be globally employable by 2025, an increase from 51.2% in 2024. The report, prepared by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) in collaboration with Wheebox and the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), highlights that management graduates lead in employability at 78%, followed by engineering (71.5%), MCA (71%), and science graduates (58%). Key states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Delhi are emerging as talent hubs, with cities such as Pune, Bengaluru, and Mumbai providing a skilled workforce.
The report also reveals a gender disparity in employability rates, with men's employability expected to rise to 53.5% in 2025 from 51.8% in 2024, while women's employability is projected to decline from 50.9% to 47.5%. An analysis of 650,000 candidates who took the Wheebox Global Employability Test found that 93% of students are interested in internships. Chief convenor of the report, Mr. Nirmal Singh, emphasized the need for quality skill training and certified programs with language training to enhance international mobility. The "Decoding Jobs - 2025" report also indicates a hiring intent of 9.8% for FY 2026, particularly in global capability centres and banking sectors.
