Mr. Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minster of Communications, IT and Railways stated that the government expects to auction 5G spectrum by April-May 2022.
“Presently the telecom regulator is working on it and once they send their suggestions, we will be able to initiate the auctions,” the minister told at the Times Now Summit 2021.
Mr. Vaishnaw included that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) anticipates the telecom regulator to send its suggestions by February end or beginning of March 2022. “The TRAI consultation is relatively comprehensive and a significant exercise,” he clarified.
Meanwhile, the minister stated the government was working towards reviving the profitability of the telecom sector and that the root cause of the massive lawsuit in the sector was the intricate governing structure. “According to the Prime Minister’s vision, you will see that the policy momentum will now be towards streamlining the regulatory structure,” he stated. Mr. Vaishnaw added further that the full potential of the reforms which have been declared and the next wave of reforms, will be achieved in the next two to three years.
