Since 2017, 73 unserved or underserved airports, including 9 heliports and 2 water aerodromes, have been operationalized through the UDAN programme. The accompanying Annexure contains a list of these airports, heliports, and water aerodromes. Bidding rounds are routinely held in order to increase the number of destinations/stations and routes that UDAN serves.
UDAN is a self-supporting programme. As of January 31, 2023, Selected Airline Operators (SAOs) had received VGF funds totalling approximately US$ 284.7 million (Rs. 2,355 crores) for the operation of UDAN flights.
The Government has approved the 'Revival of unserved and under-served airports' scheme for the revival and development of 100 unserved and under-served Airports, Helipads and Water Aerodromes by 2024. Under the UDAN scheme, the unserved & underserved airports/airstrips namely Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda and Pathankot have been identified in the State of Punjab for the operation of UDAN flights till the completion of four rounds of bidding. UDAN flight operations from the Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda and Pathankot airports have been commenced by the Selected Airline Operators (SAOs).
