Union Minister for Jal Shakti, Mr. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, announced that approximately 75% of the rural households in India have now been equipped with tap water connections. Celebrating this significant achievement, He commended all states for their concerted efforts to achieve the goal.
Official data indicates that out of 19,27,94,822 rural households, 14,46,57,889 now have tap water connections. Eleven states and Union Territories have accomplished 100% coverage in rural areas, with 15 states and UTs achieving tap water coverage between 75-100%. Additionally, six states have achieved coverage between 50-75%, while Rajasthan and West Bengal lag with below 50% coverage. Launched in 2019, the Jal Jeevan Mission aims to ensure safe and sufficient drinking water through individual household tap connections to all rural households in India by 2024.
