Presently, 86 airports across the country use green energy, with 55 of those using 100% of their overall energy usage from green sources.
However, the usage of conventional energy sources is the main cause of carbon emissions at airports, therefore replacing non-renewable energy with green energy can help the airport lower its carbon footprint. Therefore, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has recommended the developers of the planned Greenfield Airports, as well as all operational airports with scheduled operations, work towards achieving carbon neutrality and net zero, which includes using green energy.
Airports all over the world are constantly emphasising the usage of green or renewable energy. Airports like Heathrow, Bristol, and London Gatwick in the United Kingdom (UK), Amsterdam in the Netherlands, Athens in Greece, Oslo in Norway, Brussels in Belgium, Budapest in Hungary, Copenhagen in Denmark, San Diego in the United States, Vancouver in Canada, and Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, among others, have achieved carbon neutrality by using a number of measures, including the use of green/renewable energy.
