A memorandum of understanding was signed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and Amazon Kisan to empower farmers

Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi, and Amazon Kisan inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to combine their respective strengths and create synergy for the purpose of assisting farmers in the scientific production of various crops for maximum yield and income. Through the network of Amazon, ICAR will offer farmers technological support. Both agricultural productivity and farmer livelihood would be enhanced. Consumers across India will have access to high-quality fresh produce thanks to this MoU between farmers and the Amazon Kisan programme, including through Amazon Fresh.

Secretary DARE and Director General ICAR, Mr. Himanshu Pathak, emphasised the importance of secondary agriculture for higher farmer compensation. He went on to emphasise the value of essential inputs in agriculture and the need for season-based crop strategies. He said that ICAR and Amazon would work together on technology, capacity-building, and the dissemination of new knowledge.

On behalf of ICAR, Dr. US Gautam, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension) and Mr. Sidhrtha Tata, Senior Product Leader from Amazon Fresh Supply Chain & Kisan signed the MoU.

The success of a pilot project between ICAR-KVK and Amazon in Pune has inspired them to increase their cooperation to spread the precision agricultural techniques they have developed over a long period of time. By utilising the technological foundation through programmes for capacity-building and technology transfer, Krishi Vigyan Kendras would strengthen a larger population of farmers. To improve farming practices and farm profitability, ICAR and Amazon will collaborate on additional farmer engagement programmes at Krishi Vigyan Kendras. These programmes will involve conducting demos, trials, and capacity-building projects. Additionally, Amazon will provide farmers with training and help them promote their produce on its web platform, enabling more direct interactions with customers.
