The Aadhaar App has crossed 5 crore downloads, reflecting growing adoption of digital-first Aadhaar services among residents, according to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The app provides Aadhaar number holders with access to services including mobile number, address and email updates, biometric lock and unlock facilities, and e-Aadhaar downloads through smartphones, reducing the need to visit Aadhaar centres. Since its launch, the app has facilitated more than 60 lakh mobile number updates, over 15 lakh address updates and more than 23 lakh email updates. Designed around the principle of ‘Show, Share and Verify’, the Aadhaar App provides residents with greater control over the use of their identity information while enabling convenient and secure verification. The growing adoption of the app highlights the increasing role of digital platforms in delivering accessible and resident-centric public services.

Alongside the expansion of the Aadhaar App, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is strengthening the ecosystem for secure, consent-based offline identity verification. Since the rollout of the initiative in January, more than 200 entities have been onboarded as Offline Verification Seeking Entities (OVSEs). Through offline verification mechanisms, including QR code-based verification and secure digitally signed documents, OVSEs can verify Aadhaar-related identity information without requiring real-time connectivity to UIDAI’s central database. The framework enables Aadhaar number holders to share only the minimum information required for verification, supporting privacy and greater user control. The expansion of the Aadhaar App and offline verification mechanisms is aligned with the Government’s Digital India vision and its objective of improving ease of living through secure, accessible and technology-enabled public services.
