The Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries, Mr. Krishan Pal Gurjar informed that, as per e-vahan portal, about 256,980 electric vehicles (EVs) have been registered in India as of March 15, 2023 (2020-2023).
The Ministry of Heavy Industries has given certain incentives to the buyers and manufacturers of electric vehicles through three schemes. Firstly, Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India) was commenced in April, 2019 with a total budgetary support of US$ 1.21 billion (Rs. 10,000 crores). Under FAME-India Scheme phase-II, incentives are provided to buyers of electric vehicles in the form of an upfront reduction in the purchase price of electric vehicles.
In addition to this, under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for the automotive sector, electric vehicles are covered. Furthermore, PLI Scheme for Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) was approved for manufacturing ACC in the country.
