Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) Signs 70-Year Lease Agreement for Basmati and Organic Training Centre in Pilibhit

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, has signed a 70-year lease agreement to establish a dedicated Basmati and Organic Training Centre in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, aimed at strengthening India’s agri-export ecosystem. The initiative is designed to enhance farmer capacity, promote best agricultural practices, and improve the quality and traceability of Basmati rice and organic produce. The centre will serve as a key hub for training, research and knowledge dissemination, supporting exporters and farmers in aligning with global standards. This move is expected to boost India’s competitiveness in premium agricultural exports while ensuring sustainability and value addition across the supply chain.

In addition, APEDA has launched an AI-based Basmati paddy survey project to improve crop assessment and export planning. The project leverages advanced technologies to generate accurate data on cultivated area, yield and production trends, enabling better forecasting and policy support. By integrating digital tools with on-ground efforts, the government aims to enhance transparency, reduce uncertainties in export supply and strengthen India’s position as a leading exporter of Basmati rice. These initiatives reflect a broader strategy to modernise the agricultural export framework, improve market linkages, and ensure higher income opportunities for farmers through technology-driven interventions and institutional capacity building.
