As Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh prepares for the Mahakumbh Mela FYF25, artificial intelligence (AI)-driven technology will be deployed for effective crowd management and the convenience of devotees, according to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mr. Rajesh Dwivedi for Mahakumbh Mela. The district is set to install around 2,700 CCTV cameras across the fair area, with AI-enabled cameras providing 24/7 surveillance and automatic alerts based on their feed. This initiative will complement traditional human intelligence, enhancing security efforts. The Mela will also feature 56 police stations, with 25 already in place.
To ensure the safety of approximately 45 crore (450 million) devotees, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mr. Yogi Adityanath government is implementing a digital-first approach, incorporating AI and social media platforms like Facebook and X for enhanced management and security. A digital 'lost-and-found centre' will go live on December 1, designed to assist in reuniting separated individuals using AI-enabled cameras. These cameras will continuously monitor the crowd, identify missing persons, and register their details digitally. The AI-powered system, which includes face recognition technology, will instantly assist in locating individuals sharing missing person information across social media platforms for quicker reuniting. This digital transformation aims to make the FY25 Mahakumbh Mela safer and more organised.
