India’s flag carrier, Air India, and Singapore Airlines are inching their way towards an actual strengthening of their existing airline partnership. This comes after they signed the commercial cooperation framework agreement in Mumbai on January 16, 2026, with Air India’s Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, Mr. Campbell Wilson, and Singapore Airlines Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Goh Choon Phong, at the helm. This agreement has been reached with the existing network of 61 destinations in 20 countries covered under their airline codeshare, with an objective to increase India-Singapore routes. As part of the framework, the two carriers will investigate strategic joint business opportunities such as synchronizing flight schedules, further growing their codeshare network, and facilitating seamless connectivity for passengers on combined flights operated by the two carriers. All the above are subject to approvals from the relevant authorities and signing definitive agreements. The aim is to provide passengers with even more choice and convenience with air transportation growth across the Asia Pacific region.
The agreement also provides an opportunity for a wide range of collaborative business operations in carefully chosen international markets, with the potential for developing and harmonizing the Frequent Flyer Programs of Air India’s Maharaja Club, Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer, and other Star Alliance carriers. Through the transformative power of the Star Alliance membership, the two carriers will work towards maximizing the synergy benefits of their combined operations, encouraging the growth of tourism and business, and fostering the development of people-to-people ties between India and Singapore.
