Airbus, the European aerospace major, has launched a Centre of Excellence for aerospace studies at Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) in Vadodara, Gujarat. This Centre of Excellence is a significant milestone in the long-term partnership between Airbus and GSV, which aims to enhance the Indian aerospace sector through research, innovation, and developing new talent. The Centre of Excellence will focus significantly on research in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and student innovation in future aerospace areas, in line with India's focus on sustainability and innovative aerospace solutions. The Centre of Excellence was inaugurated by President and Managing Director of Airbus India and South Asia Mr. Jürgen Westermeier, in the presence of Member of the Court of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya Ms. Shubhangini Raje Gaekwad and Vice-Chancellor of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Choudhary, symbolizing the partnership between the industry and academia in advancing high-tech research and education.
Since 2024, Airbus and Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) have been working to build a strong aerospace ecosystem in India. Their partnership includes a full scholarship program for 45 deserving and disadvantaged students, of which one-third will be women, and establishing an Airbus Chair Professor for Aerospace Studies to facilitate undergraduate, postgraduate, and executive courses. Further, the Joint Study Agreement (JSA) will help facilitate high-impact research, especially in the area of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) to Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), which will help create a circular economy for aviation fuel. This will help achieve the Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat goals of India in 2047.
