Bharti Airtel is planning to raise Rs. 9,230 crore (US$ 1 billion) for its data centre subsidiary Nxtra Data Ltd. to support the expansion of digital infrastructure in India. The investment is expected to come from global investors, including Alpha Wave Global and Carlyle, with the funding aimed at strengthening Nxtra’s capacity to meet the rising demand for data storage, cloud services, and digital connectivity. According to reports, Alpha Wave Global may invest around Rs. 3,320 crore (US$ 400 million), while Carlyle and Bharti Airtel could each contribute about Rs. 2,490 crore (US$ 300 million) toward the proposed funding round. The investment will support Nxtra’s strategy to expand its network of data centres and enhance digital infrastructure capabilities across key markets.
Nxtra Data Ltd. operates as one of India's biggest data center companies, which has expanded its operations to meet the demands of India's growing digital economy. The company currently operates multiple large-scale data centres across major Indian cities and continues to invest in high-capacity facilities to support enterprise customers, hyperscalers, and government digital platforms. The proposed investment will lead to faster infrastructure development, while it will enhance both cloud services and data services capabilities for India, which faces rising digital storage requirements that result from increasing internet access and data use, and industry digital transformation.
