Amazon said that it has generated over 110,000 seasonal job opportunities throughout its operations network in preparation for the festive season. Direct and indirect work opportunities are available in cities across India, including Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, and Chennai.

The majority of the new recruits have joined Amazon's current network of associates and will assist them in securely picking, packing, shipping, and delivering consumer goods. Customer Service associates are also among the new hires, some of whom are part of the Virtual Customer Service model, which allows employees to work from the comfort of their own homes.

These new positions are in addition to the 8,000 job openings revealed earlier this month during Amazon's first-ever Career Day in India. The seasonal positions are yet another step forward in Amazon India's goal of creating one million new jobs in the country by 2025.

“During the Festive season, consumers throughout the country rely on Amazon to fulfil their shopping orders safely, reliably, and quickly,” said Mr. Akhil Saxena, Amazon's VP of Customer Fulfilment Operations for APAC, MENA, and LATAM. “An increased workforce of over 110,000 people will help us enhance our fulfilment, delivery, and customer support capabilities, as well as contribute to a superior customer experience.”

According to Mr. Saxena, the employment would provide livelihood and financial independence to tens of thousands of people.

“We invite employees from all walks of life to help us provide a pleasant Festive season for our customers and vendors across India,” Mr. Saxena added.

Underrepresented cohorts, such as persons with disabilities, women, military veterans, and the LGBTQIA+ community, have been given chances by the firm. Seasonal recruiting this year has improved its inclusive workforce by adding 50% more women, close to 60% more people with disabilities, and a more than 100% increase in LGBTQAI+ participation compared to previous year.

“I recently began working in Amazon's fulfilment centre, where I am responsible for packing client purchases. Joyasree Samanta, a recent seasonal recruit at Amazon India, stated, "I truly appreciate the work atmosphere and amenities offered to us." “Everyone working in the building is given extra attention to their health and safety. I'm relieved to be able to provide for my family.”

Amazon India extended its fulfilment and delivery network in 2021, currently having over 60 fulfilment centres in 15 states, 19 sort centres, over 1700 Amazon-owned and partner delivery stations, almost 28,000 ‘I Have Space' partners, and thousands of Amazon Flex delivery partners.

As everyone tackles the challenges connected with Covid-19, Amazon India stated it attaches a high priority on the well-being and safety of its workers throughout its operational network. Amazon India recently stated that it has completed almost 3 lakh vaccines for its associates, employees, and dependents across the country, thanks to vaccination programmes organised in collaboration with renowned healthcare providers.

Flipkart, a competitor, has said that it will employ more than 115,000 people directly this season, 15% of whom are women and individuals with disabilities.
