Amazon India stated on Thursday that it is expanding its fulfilment network in Telangana by opening a new specialised centre and expanding an existing one.

According to a press statement from the e-commerce giant, the new Fulfilment Centre (FC) here would have a storage capacity of more than six lakh cubic feet and will house a larger assortment of products from the major appliances and furnishings categories.

More than 35,000 sellers in the state will benefit from the FC, which will provide them access to a wider client base. The expansion will also help Telangana create direct and indirect job opportunities while assuring seamless and speedier delivery to customers.

Amazon India's infrastructure footprint in Telangana has grown by about one million square feet, with a storage capacity of more than five million cubic feet, as a result of this expansion.

Tens of thousands of products, including air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, and televisions, as well as furniture, will be housed in the new specialised FCs ahead of the next festive season.

The enhanced infrastructure, according to Mr. Abhinav Singh, Director, Amazon Transportation Services, Amazon India, would enable the company to meet its customers' growing demand for heavy appliances and furniture while also enabling small and medium companies throughout the state.

"Our continuing investment in Telangana will have a multiplier effect on the local economy and give auxiliary businesses across the state a boost," he said.

Minister for Information Technology and Industries Mr. K T Rama Rao said Amazon India's large investment in Telangana demonstrates the state's appeal as a commercial and innovation engine.

According to Amazon India, the expansion in Telangana is part of the company's aspirations to boost national storage capacity by over 40% by 2021.
