Amazon India sets up all-women delivery station in Gujarat

Amazon India has set up an all-women delivery station in Kadi, Gujarat - its second such facility in the country, as part of the company's efforts towards increasing participation of women in the workforce.

Kadi is situated nearly 50 kilometers from the capital of Gujarat, Ahmedabad, with a population of almost 80,000 people. The company opened its first all-women delivery station in India in 2016, with its Chennai affiliate, Tamil Nadu. The Delivery Service Partner program is Amazon India's last-mile delivery network, where the company works with partners to leverage local awareness.

The company stated that as of now, eight women have been hired for the facility. A helpline number has been created for associates - who will deliver packages within a 2-5 km radius of the station - to dial in for support.

Mr Prakash Rochlani, Director, Last Mile Operations at Amazon India, stated that the company’s vision is to enable women discover career opportunities across Amazon India. The company has created >6,000 opportunities for women across its network for the same.

Amazon India stated that it has created opportunities for >200 women across its fulfillment network in Gujarat. The company recently opened a distribution station in the state that is entirely owned and managed by transgender people, operated by a delivery service affiliate. The business has also given job opportunities through its network in Gujarat former defence personnel and individuals with different skills.
