The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, facilitated the flag-off of the maiden export consignment of 1.755 metric tonnes (MT) of organic Palmyra Jaggery Powder (Palmyra Blossom Nectar) on October 15, 2026. The consignment will travel from Gobichettipalayam in Tamil Nadu’s Erode district to Varna, Bulgaria. Certified under the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) and EU standards, it marks an important step towards introducing India’s traditional Palmyra-based products to international markets and diversifying the country’s organic export basket. Wellbeing Foods, Erode, manufactured and exported the consignment in collaboration with Chetty Exports Private Limited, Chennai. It will be shipped by sea through Chennai Port to the importer and distributor, Sow Life Ltd in Bulgaria.
Chairman of APEDA Mr. Abhishek Dev flagged off the consignment at a ceremony attended by Secretary of APEDA Dr. Saswati Bose, exporters, international partners and progressive farmers. The initiative covers 137 acres under organic cultivation and is expected to benefit farmers through improved market access and export-oriented value chains. Compared with the domestic market, price realisation is reported to be approximately 15-22% higher for farmers and 17% higher for the manufacturer. Derived from Palmyra blossom nectar, the jaggery powder is a traditional sweetener that can replace refined sugar and has potential for wider international acceptance. APEDA expects the shipment to open avenues for further market expansion for India’s traditional products.
