The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in collaboration with the ICAR-Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (CISH), has successfully facilitated the first commercial sea shipment of premium Banganapalle mangoes from India to Singapore. The consignment, comprising 5 metric tonnes (MT) of mangoes, was exported by Osum Food Solutions LLP on June 11, 2026, and arrived in Singapore on June 24, 2026. Sourced from Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)-certified orchards in Andhra Pradesh and processed at an APEDA-recognised packhouse in Karnataka, the shipment complied with Singapore's quality and phytosanitary standards. The successful export marks an important step towards promoting cost-effective and sustainable logistics solutions for India's horticultural exports while expanding the international market presence of premium Indian mangoes.
The shipment demonstrated the effectiveness of scientific post-harvest management practices, cold-chain infrastructure and sea freight logistics in maintaining fruit quality during transportation. According to APEDA, the export generated significant benefits for farmers, with the consignment realising approximately Rs. 50 per kilogram (US$ 0.53 per kilogram), compared to domestic market prices of Rs. 25-26 per kilogram (US$ 0.27-0.28 per kilogram), nearly doubling farm-gate returns. Upon arrival, the Singapore-based importer reported excellent fruit quality, highlighting the mangoes' sweetness, uniform ripening, shelf life and phytosanitary condition. The success of the initiative reinforces the growing viability of maritime transport as a commercially scalable and environmentally sustainable export pathway for fresh produce. It also aligns with the Government's objective of boosting agricultural exports, enhancing farmers' incomes and strengthening India's position as a reliable global supplier of high-quality horticultural products.
