India's millet export sector received a significant boost with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) facilitating the first-ever sea shipment of botanical-infused ready-to-cook millet functional foods from Karnataka to New Zealand on June 3, 2026. The shipment, comprising one metric tonne of value-added millet-based products, was exported by Bengaluru-based Infini Agrotek LLP and reflects the increasing global demand for innovative food products derived from India's traditional grains. The milestone highlights the expanding opportunities for value-added agricultural exports and reinforces the growing international acceptance of millet-based functional foods. The export order was secured following the company's participation in APEDA-supported trade promotion platforms, including World Food India 2025, Indus Food 2025 and Gulfood 2026, which enabled it to connect with international buyers and strengthen its global market presence.
The shipment was virtually flagged off by APEDA Chairman Mr. Abhishek Dev, who appreciated the company for developing innovative millet products and successfully entering overseas markets. APEDA also encouraged the exporter to continue leveraging its export promotion initiatives and participation in international trade fairs to expand market access and explore new business opportunities. The development underscores the growing potential of India's value-added agricultural products and is expected to create stronger demand for millet cultivation while benefiting farmers, processors and exporters across the value chain. As global consumers increasingly seek nutritious, climate-resilient and sustainable food options, millet-based products are emerging as an important component of India's agricultural export basket, contributing to the diversification and expansion of the country's agri-food exports.
