APEDA Facilitates First Export of Fresh Mangoes from Jharkhand to United Kingdom

In a significant boost to agricultural exports from Jharkhand, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry facilitated the first commercial export of fresh mangoes from the State to the United Kingdom. The consignment, flagged off in Kolkata on June 4, 2026, comprises 1.5 metric tonnes of Amrapali mangoes sourced from Beura Farmer Producer Company Ltd., an all-women Farmer Producer Company (FPC) based in Simdega district. The shipment is being exported by M/s JGB Agrofresh Pvt. Ltd. to London and marks Jharkhand’s entry into the international fresh fruit export market. The export follows an Export-Oriented Capacity Building Programme organised by APEDA in May 2026 for Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs), Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and progressive farmers in the district. The programme focused on export requirements, quality standards and international market opportunities, helping prepare local producers for participation in global value chains.

APEDA subsequently facilitated market linkages between the women-led FPC and the exporter, enabling the procurement of export-quality mangoes and integrating local farmers into the export ecosystem. The initiative has provided member farmers with improved market access and higher returns compared with prevailing domestic prices, while encouraging the adoption of better production practices, post-harvest management techniques and compliance with international quality standards. Jharkhand’s favourable agro-climatic conditions and the growing reputation of its Amrapali mangoes for quality and taste offer significant potential for expanding horticultural exports from the State. The successful shipment also highlights the increasing role of farmer collectives, women-led enterprises and rural producer organisations in India’s agricultural export growth. By supporting capacity building, market development and export promotion activities, APEDA continues to strengthen the integration of farmers with global markets, creating new income opportunities and enhancing the competitiveness of Indian agricultural products in international markets.
