APEDA facilitates first export of premium Kashmir cherries and plums to Singapore

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has facilitated the first export shipment of premium Areko cherries and Scentrose plums from Jammu & Kashmir to Singapore, expanding the global footprint of the region's high-value horticultural produce. Sourced from the districts of Shopian and Pulwama, the consignment follows the successful export of fresh cherries and plums to Abu Dhabi and Dubai, further strengthening Kashmir's presence in international fruit markets. Organised in collaboration with Osum Food Solutions LLP and Fruit Master Agro Fresh Private Limited, the inaugural shipment was flagged off on July 16, 2026. The produce was scientifically harvested, graded, packed and transported through an efficient cold chain while meeting international food safety and phytosanitary standards, ensuring premium quality upon arrival in Singapore.
The initiative is expected to enable growers to realise over 50% higher returns compared with conventional marketing channels while encouraging export-oriented cultivation, scientific farming practices and improved post-harvest management. APEDA stated that the initiative will help reduce post-harvest losses, improve value realisation and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for fruit-growing communities across Jammu & Kashmir. The export also reflects the authority's continued efforts to diversify international markets, strengthen India's horticultural export ecosystem and improve logistics for perishable agricultural produce. By connecting farmers with premium global markets, the initiative is expected to enhance income opportunities while positioning Jammu & Kashmir as a reliable supplier of high-quality temperate fruits in the international marketplace.
