Mr. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology and Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, after a meeting with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Apple, Mr. Tim Cook, mentioned that Apple could possibly double or triple its investments and exports from India in the coming few years.
Apple opened two official retail stores in the country recently, in Mumbai and in Delhi.
To decrease its dependency on China, Apple has been trying to expand its manufacturing operations in India. Foxconn and Wistron Corp., two Taiwanese contract electronics manufacturers, assemble their products, including iPhones, in India. Through contract manufacturers, Apple mostly assembles iPhones in India, but it also has plans to produce iPads and AirPods in the country.
