Indian workers are increasingly embracing Artificial Intelligence (AI) to remain competitive in the job market, with many viewings it as both a productivity tool and a career accelerator, according to hiring platform Indeed’s latest workforce study. Conducted in May 2025, the survey covered 3,001 professionals across 12 industries. It revealed that 43% of respondents feel confident about adapting to technologies such as generative AI and agentic AI within the next two to five years. Mid-career professionals, particularly those aged 35-54, emerged as the most confident group, with 49% expressing readiness to navigate workplace changes brought by AI. Interestingly, this group is also the most proactive about upskilling, with 56% seeking additional training compared to 41% of younger workers. The motivations range from career advancement and staying technologically relevant to improving efficiency in daily roles.
The report further highlights that AI is no longer confined to tech-driven roles but is becoming integral across sectors, including blue-collar jobs. About 70% of blue-collar workers surveyed agreed that AI helps them in their work, with some already leveraging generative AI for paperwork and customer service tasks. At the same time, workers expect structural support from employers, with 29% preferring self-paced training modules and others seeking dedicated time for upskilling during work hours. However, the transition is not without risks. A Goldman Sachs study cited in the report warns that unemployment could rise globally by 0.5% in the AI transition phase, with roles like programmers, accountants, and customer service representatives most vulnerable. Despite these risks, optimism remains high, with industry experts suggesting that mastering AI skills could unlock opportunities for higher pay, promotions, and new career paths in an AI-integrated future.
