Artificial Intelligence (AI) is set to transform India’s workforce and economy, with the Ernst & Young (EY) India report predicting a revolutionary impact by 2030. Generative AI (GenAI) could reshape 38 million jobs, boosting productivity by 2.61% in the organized sector and an additional 2.82% in the unorganized sector. With 24% of tasks across industries being fully automatable and another 42% primed for AI enhancement, sectors like Information Technology (IT) / Information Technology enabled Services (ITeS), healthcare, and customer services will undergo more dramatic changes. This transformation, driven by innovation and efficiency, positions India as a leader in leveraging AI for economic growth, creating opportunities for workforce upskilling and talent development.

While skills shortages and data readiness exist, they present opportunities for India to strengthen its AI ecosystem. With only 3% of enterprises fully AI-ready, this gap highlights a vast potential for growth through investments in training, public-private collaborations, and robust AI policies. India can proactively address these challenges by focusing on responsible governance, compute infrastructure, and research. As AI costs decline and adoption accelerates, the nation is uniquely positioned to emerge as a global hub for AI talent, fostering innovation and sustainable growth across sectors like advanced manufacturing, renewables, and financial services.
