The 2nd WHO Global Traditional Medicine Summit 2025 took place in New Delhi, where Ashwagandha (an important herb for traditional Ayurvedic medicine) was one of the leading topics discussed globally during this meeting. Experts from around the world came together to look at ways of successfully integrating natural herbal products such as Ashwagandha and other traditional herbs into today's healthcare systems safely and effectively. Delegates recognised that scientific research, regulations, and international collaboration are key components needed to further establish the role of Traditional Medicines in the Global Health Agenda.
The summit focused on the potential of Ashwagandha to be used as an adaptogenic herb and shows promise to be used in multiple ways for wellness and resilience. There were many discussions around how to create bridges connecting ancient wellness practices with modern health (or medical) systems through collaboration, research, and evidence-based validation. Many delegates represented multidisciplinary approaches that honour traditional knowledge but also ensure safety and quality through science. The focus on Ashwagandha at the summit illustrates the increasing interest in holistic types of health solutions and how traditional approaches to health may factor into the course of addressing global health challenges moving forward.
