The largest Geographical Indication (GI) Pavilion at the India International Trade Fair, being held at International Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), Pragati Maidan, from November 14-27, 2023, is being hosted by the Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce & Industry.
The Hon'ble Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Som Parkash, unveiled the Pavilion and laid the red carpet for public viewing on November 15, 2023, the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas.
Over 600 artists from 28 States and Union Territories are participating in the GI Pavilion, offering over 200 unique Geographical Indications (GIs) products ranging from handicrafts and looms to food and agriculture, catering to the interests of all age groups. GI items have certain characteristics and qualities attributed to their geographic origin.
It has placed women entrepreneurs and artists from many tribes front and centre to showcase their craft. A convergence of commercial and cultural interaction opportunities is being created by the enthusiastic participation of craftsmen at the GI Pavilion.
Visitors experience India's rich traditional and cultural soul firsthand with the live demonstration and portrayal of traditional artworks in the Pavilion by Padma Shri and National awardees, including Gond Painting, Warli Painting, Pithora Painting, Shamphee Lanphee, Sandur Lambani Embroidery, Odisha Pattachitra, etc.
The Kids Play Zone, which combines digital and physical activities, is another feature of the pavilion designed to let younger participants explore the day.
