Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and Hitachi Energy India have secured a contract from Adani Energy Solutions to develop India’s largest private power transmission project, valued at Rs. 12,000 crore (US$ 1.41 billion). The project aims to establish high-voltage direct current (HVDC) terminals to facilitate power transmission from Bhadla, Rajasthan, a major renewable energy hub, to Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh. With a 6,000 Megawatt (MW) transmission capacity across 950 kilometers, the initiative is expected to provide electricity to approximately 60 million households. The contract was awarded through tariff-based competitive bidding, with the project being developed under Rajasthan Part I Power Transmission Limited, a subsidiary of Adani Energy Solutions.

The project involves key components such as converter transformers, alternating current (AC)/direct current (DC) control and protection systems, thyristor valves, and 765 kilovolts (kV)/400 kV grid connections. It is expected to enhance grid stability and improve the integration of renewable energy into the national electricity network. The collaboration between BHEL and Hitachi Energy India underscores India’s focus on modernising its power infrastructure to meet the growing energy demand. By deploying advanced High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) technology, the project will minimize transmission losses and support the country’s transition towards a more sustainable energy landscape.
