India has emerged as a major global force in renewable energy, said Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy and Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Mr. Pralhad Joshi at the conclusion of the Bharat Renewable Energy (BRE) Summit and Expo 2026 in New Delhi on November 5, 2026. The four-day summit was inaugurated by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi on November 2. It recorded over 75,000 visitors, more than 400 exhibitors and 627 speakers across 113 sessions, with representation from 135 countries. High-level participation included 32 international ministers, six Chief Ministers and 10 State Energy Ministers. Achieving India’s target of 500 gigawatts (GW) of non-fossil fuel capacity will require investments of approximately Rs. 20.84 lakh crore (US$ 220 billion). Discussions at the summit showed that capital availability is not a constraint, with strong interest from pension funds and institutional investors.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and Rotterdam-based Power2X to advance the supply of green molecules from India to international markets. The potential first tranche is three lakh tonnes per annum of green methanol. A total of 10 MoUs and Framework Agreements were signed during the summit, and 37 reports, assessments and digital platforms were released. The International Solar Alliance (ISA) proposed a Rs. 1,894.17 crore (US$ 200 million) Africa Solar Facility and launched the ISA Academy and the Global Capability Centre-SHINE. Over 300 startups participated in the RE Hackathon, and more than 100 business-to-business meetings were held on the sidelines.
