Bureau of Indian Standards establishes 6467 Standard Clubs for students across nation

The National Standards Body of India, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), has declared that 6467 Standard Clubs have been founded in universities and high schools across the nation. According to BIS, standard clubs are being developed with the goal of educating young people about the value of standards in enhancing quality of life.

As per one of the official statements by BIS, children are the architects of a strong, vibrant, and dynamic India. The BIS is lighting up the future of India with a visionary initiative: the creation of Standards Clubs in schools and colleges across the nation. This innovative endeavour aims to instill in young minds the paramount importance of quality, standards, and a scientific temperament. Quality consciousness, steeped in the principles of standardization, is a key pillar of accelerated economic development.

According to BIS, the Standards Clubs initiative, which was launched in 2021 and has since been established in 6,467 schools and institutions across the nation, has had a considerable impact. Over 1.7 lakh eager students with a background in science make up the membership of these clubs, which are mentored by devoted science instructors from their individual schools who have received specialised training from BIS. Among them, 5,562 Standards Clubs have been established in educational institutions, and 905 clubs, including 384 clubs in engineering colleges, have been established in various colleges.

Considering the significance of practical learning, BIS has further extended its financial support. High and higher secondary schools with Standards Clubs are eligible to receive a one-time Laboratory Grant in the form of cutting-edge lab equipment to upgrade their Science Labs, up to a maximum of Rs. 50,000 (US$ 600.91).

Additionally, BIS is offering financial support of up to Rs. 1,00,000 (US$ 1,201.81) to build 'Manak Kaksha' in government institutions where Standards Clubs have been founded to guarantee that the learning atmosphere is both enjoyable and engaging. One classroom at the school will be renovated as part of this programme, and basic amenities such as smart TVs, audiovisual systems, adequate lighting, wall decoration, etc. will be installed. These spaces are to be designed to inspire curiosity and innovation, fostering the growth of future leaders.
