Cabinet approves Rs 4,526.12 cr investment for Kwar hydro power project in J&K

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a proposal to invest Rs. 4,526.12 crore (US$ 591 million) to construct 540 MW Kwar hydroelectric project in Jammu & Kashmir.

The project is expected to generate 1,975.54 million units of electricity in a year with a 90% reliability factor and will provide direct and indirect employment to about 2,700 persons. The project shall be commissioned in 54 months.

The project would be developed on the Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district and will be implemented by Chenab Valley Power Projects Ltd.
