According to the Broadband India Forum, the Union Cabinet's decision to allow private 5G networks is a forward-thinking step and a precursor of the digital transformation that is needed for Digital India. This will improve enterprise efficiencies, productivity, production, speed up digitisation, increase capacities, strengthen indigenous manufacturing, and ultimately result in higher economic gains for the country.

The Notice Inviting Applications (NIA) for the Spectrum Auction, which was announced on June 15, allows all four methods of awarding spectrum for Private 5G Networks as recommended by TRAI, including the possibility of firms getting spectrum directly from the Department of Telecommunications. This gives businesses the much-needed freedom to build their own private 5G networks depending on the specific needs of their unique captive use.

The licence fees and administrative costs paid for the spectrum assigned to private networks would also provide an additional source of revenue for the government.
