Canada is sending its largest trade delegation to India in more than 30 years, with nearly 300 business delegates exploring partnerships across key sectors as both countries advance negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Canadian Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development, Mr. Maninder Sidhu, announced that the trade mission would focus on aerospace, clean energy, technology, life sciences, agri-food and forestry. The visit aims to expand commercial ties with India, one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies, and create new opportunities for businesses and workers in both countries. The proposed CEPA is intended to improve market access and strengthen bilateral economic engagement. Canada has set a target of more than doubling bilateral trade with India to Rs. 6.65 lakh crore (US$ 70 billion) by 2030, reflecting its efforts to broaden trade and investment ties across sectors.

The delegation is expected to help Canadian companies explore partnerships, reach new customers and identify investment opportunities in India. Areas of potential cooperation include energy, critical minerals, aerospace, manufacturing, technology and agriculture. The trade mission comes after the fifth round of CEPA negotiations was held in Ottawa earlier in October 2026, as both countries work towards concluding the agreement by the end of 2026. India’s population of more than 1.4 billion and its economic growth offer a substantial market for Canadian businesses. The proposed agreement could shape the next phase of bilateral trade and investment by improving market access and supporting commercial partnerships. The delegation’s engagements are expected to complement ongoing negotiations and help identify practical opportunities for cooperation across priority industries.
