Carlsberg India sets up new brewery in Karnataka

Bengaluru: Beer maker Carlsberg India Pvt. Ltd Tuesday said it has set up a new brewery in Karnataka with an annual capacity of 80 million litres.

The brewery in Nanjangud taluk near Mysuru is spread over 27.1 acres and will manufacture all brands in Carlsberg India’s existing product portfolio.

Carlsberg’s eponymous beer brand and its Tuborg brand are already available in the state. The new brewery is another step towards strengthening the company’s significant growth opportunity in the state, the local arm of Danish brewer Carlsberg Group said in a statement.

Karnataka is the largest market for overall liquor consumption in the country, both in terms of volume and value. The state is also widely viewed by industry executives and analysts as one that has, on average, more progressive liquor policies than others.

The new brewery will be Carlsberg’s eighth in the country. Apart from these, it also has four contract manufacturing facilities in India.

Carlsberg India also said it recently began importing Kronenbourg 1664 from its global parent’s portfolio in India in select markets, including Bengaluru.
