"The value of our (seafood) exports in 2021-2022 was US$ 7.76 billion, or 17% of our agricultural shipments. By 2025, we hope to reach a total of US$ 14 billion" stated Ms. Anupriya Patel, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry. While speaking at the inauguration of the India International Seafood Show 2023, she further said that seafood exports are showing a positive trend this fiscal with a 3% growth in volume.
According to Patel, India's dedication to producing safe and ethical seafood for export will pave the door for increased foreign direct investment, supporting the Make in India drive.
“Additionally, we are moving forward favourably with our Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with various significant export destinations. Today, India is one of the world's most popular and significant seafood producers. We provide wholesome seafood to roughly 100 nations worldwide. India is currently one of the top five exporters of seafood,” she said.
